In 1910 Justo Sierra creates the Universidad Nacional. Escuela Nacional de Ingenieros (National School of Engineers) was part of this University, afterwards it changed its name to Escuela Nacional de Ingeniería (National Engineering School). Back in 1959 was created a research division, today the Instituto de Ingeniería (Engineering Institute) and post graduated school.

Today students can enroll in one out of twelve engineering programs:

  • Civil Engineering

  • Geomatical Engineering

  • Geophysical Engineering

  • Geological Engineering

  • Engineering of Mines and Metallurgy

  • Petroleum Engineering

  • Electrical and Electronical Engineering

  • Computer Engineering

  • Telecommunications Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Industrial Engineering

  • Mechatronics Engineering

The major part of the Engineering School is located at the central campus of the University: Ciudad Universitaria, the rest of it is distributed within buildings at de Downtown of the city and in Juriquilla, Quéretaro.

The buildings at Ciudad Universitaria are divided in two sets: Northern and Southern.

Theroy classrooms, workshops, laboratories, storage rooms, staff room, the “Javier Barros Sierra” auditorium, the “Antonio Dovalí Jaime” Library, administrative offices and the head masters office are located at the Northern Set.

Classrooms for Primary Sciences (math, physics and chemistry), an auditorium, computer laboratory, the “Maestro Enrique Rivero Borrell” library, mechanical engineering workshop, the Advanced Engineering Centre and the Engineering Institute are located at the Southern Set.

The whole campus has access to WiFi internet known as RIU (Wireless University Network), surveillance and medical service.

The former Palacio de Minería (Mining Palace) first location of the Engineering School, is now host of the Continuous Education Divisionand the Sociedad de Ex-alumnos de la Facultad de Ingeniería (graduated students association), the Tolsá museum and the Real Seminario de Minas are the buildings located at Downtown.

An extension of the Engineering Institute is located at Juriquilla, Querétaro, where specialized laboratories make tests among a variety of engineering disciplines.

BD enrollment is about 13000 students, from which more than 3000 belong to the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Division.
